Anne Hathaway felt overexposed after winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2013.
The 31-year-old actress, who won the gong for her performance in Les Miserables at last year's ceremony, was worried about a backlash from the public following her success.
Speaking to The Huffington Post, Hathaway said: ''My impression was that people needed a break from me.''
Anne hinted that her extended break away from Hollywood was not just her decision, saying: ''I think there's a common misconception about actors - that we have a lot more control than we do about when things happen.''
When asked what it was like to team up with director Christopher Nolan for upcoming movie, Interstellar, Anne added: ''We met on this [Song One] in 2011 - I was working on Batman - and then we developed this script and the music for two years, and we shot it in June. We had been planning on shooting in the fall and then Chris Nolan called with an offer for a part in his new movie...
''So, we would either have to wait and push until after that - which nobody wanted to do - or move it up and have a truncated pre-production, which is what wound up happening.''
She added: ''I am not complaining about how it's working out.''
