Foo Fighters are rumoured to be recording their next album in 12 different studios around the world.

The US band, which is comprised of former Nirvana man Dave Grohl, former Germs' guitarist Pat Smear, Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins and Chris Shiflett, are working on their eighth album and say it will be made ''in a way that no one's ever done before''.

According to Billboard, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and Seattle are already confirmed as locations to record the follow-up to 2011's Wasting Light.

Foo Fighters made their live return in Mexico late last year following a brief hiatus.
