Matt Cardle has thanked his fans for their support following news that he checked into rehab.

The singer was admitted to The Priory Clinic on Sunday (December 29) to undergo a 28-day treatment programme to tackle his addiction to prescription drugs Valium and temazepam.

The former X Factor winner posted a hand-written letter to his Twitter and Instagram accounts yesterday (December 31). thanking his fans for their "lovely messages".

He wrote:  "I want to thank my fans for all your lovely messages of support. I'm getting myself better...

"I want to be ready to give it 110% on tour next year. I love you all and will see you on the other side. Happy New Year! All my love, Matt."

Cardle recently announced 18 dates across Ireland and the UK in support of his new album Porcelain.
