Ewan McGregor is set to star in a big screen adaptation of John Le Carré's novel Our Kind of Traitor in 2014.

Director Susanna White (BBC 2's Parade’s End) and writer Hossein Amini (Drive, The Wings of the Dove) have collaborated on the project which will star Ewan McGregor -  other cast members are yet to be named.

John le Carré’s 22nd novel begins in contemporary Britain. A liberal young Oxford academic and his barrister girlfriend take an off-season holiday on the Caribbean island of Antigua. They meet there – seemingly by accident-  a Russian millionaire named Dima, who invites the tourist couple for a game of tennis.

The couple are effectively lured into the Russian oligarch's plans to defect, but they find themselves wedged uncomfortably between the Russian Mafia and the British Secret Service, neither of whom they can trust.

"Few recent plays have had dialogue as good, and few recent literary novels can boast a set of characters so vividly imagined, John Dugdale wrote, reviewing the book in The Sunday Times.

"Our Kind of Traitor is a teasing, beguiling, masterly performance, marred only by the author’s penchant for endings that (both in what happens and who’s responsible) can be predictable."
