The Saturdays' Úna Foden has been telling The Late Late Show's Ryan Tubridy about her participation in the returning ITV series Splash!, describing her training for the diving competition as "really difficult".

Speaking on Friday's Late Late Show, Foden said: "This is, like, my first time to actually confirm it, that I'm doing a reality TV show called Splash!."

"The aim is to not make too much of a splash – it's a diving competition," she said. "So I am now currently in training, learning how to dive.

"I thought I was I going to take to it literally like a duck to water because I used to be a swimmer – I was a champion swimmer as a child – but it's completely different."

Foden continued: "It's like a whole new skill to learn. It's more like acrobats, it's gymnastics. There are 20 of us altogether and there's, like, four heats and there'll be a semi-final and a final. But, sure, we'll see how I get on."

As to why she had signed up for the show, Foden said: "I was just really up for the challenge, and I am quite scared of heights as well. When I looked down, the 10-metre board, it looks so easy and the likes of Tom Daley [Splash! mentor], he just makes it look so simple.

"But it's really difficult and I really hurt myself. I'm covered in bruises! It's really, really painful, actually, to get it wrong."

Foden's new RTÉ Young Peoples wish fulfillment show, Úna's Dream Ticket, begins on Christmas Day on RTÉ Two at 11:00am.

Splash! returns to ITV on Saturday January 4 at 7.20pm.
