Toast of London, the comedy series written by Fr Ted co-creator Arthur Matthews and comedian Matt Berry, has been green-lit for a second series.

The show follows Berry as louche jobbing actor Steven Toast, a man with an outsized ego who becomes entangled in surreal scrapes. The first series averaged about 400,000 viewers in its 10.40pm Sunday slot on and Channel 4 have commissioned a second run partly because of the show's older, upmarket ABC1 audience demographic.

Andrew Newman, chief executive of Objective who produce the show said: "I am totally chuffed they are doing another series, because it has a brilliantly strong flavour and has established a proper cult following. I hope the current fans will enjoy more madness from Toast, and hopefully more will do."
