Ken Loach is set to be honoured at the 64th Berlin Film Festival.

The director will receive an honorary Golden Bear award at this year's festival, which will pay tribute to is life and career by screening his 1993 film Raining Stones.

Dieter Kosslick, the Berlin Film Festival's director, said Loach is "one of Europe's great directors.

Kosslick added: "Over his almost 50-year career, he has shown an extraordinary degree of continuity, while remaining innovative at all times. His profound interest in people and their individual fates, as well as his critical commitment to society have found expression in a variety of cinematic approaches.

"We are honouring Ken Loach as a director and greatly admire him for how he reflects on social injustices with humour in his films."

The 64th Berlin Film Festival will be held from February 6 to February 16.
