Irish milliner Philip Treacy is designing the trophies for next year's Brit Awards, and has promised a "punk" look.

Treacy, whose hats have been worn by Madonna, Lady Gaga, Boy George, Grace Jones and Britain's Princess Beatrice, among others, said: "Music has always been my inspiration and I'm fortunate to have worked with some of the music industry's greatest artists."

He continued: "My inspiration for the trophy comes from a uniquely British genre of music, punk."

Previous Brit Awards designers include Peter Blake, Damien Hirst and Vivienne Westwood.

The awards take place at London's O2 Arena on February 19.
