Walt Disney's daughter Diane Disney Miller has passed away, aged 79.

The philanthropist, who founded the Walt Disney Family Museum in 2009, passed away in her home in California following complications following a fall in September.

Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement: "As the beloved daughter of Walt Disney and one of his inspirations for creating Disneyland, she holds a special place in the history of the Walt Disney Company and in the hearts of fans everywhere.

"She will be remembered for her grace and generosity and tireless work to preserve her father's legacy."

Born in 1933, Disney Miller married professional football player Ron Miller in 1954 and he went on to serve as Disney's president in 1978 and chief executive a few years later.

The couple purchased a vineyard in Napa Valley in 1976 and have operated a number of vineyards under the name Silverado Vineyards.

Disney Miller also played an integral role in creating the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, which was kick-started by her mother, Lillian Disney.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald, their seven children and 13 grandchildren. Her younger adopted sister Sharon passed away after a battle with cancer in 1993.
