Former Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice star Kate Walsh is making her way back to mainstream TV in an NBC comedy pilot called Bad Judge.

Walsh – who played Dr Addison Montgomery, the former wife of Patrick Dempsey’s Derek Shepherd, in both shows – will feature as a hard-living, sexually-unapologetic woman.

The twist is that Walsh’s character also happens to be a judge in the American criminal court system.

Walsh will also appear in Fargo, an 10-episode project from US cable channel FX , inspired by Joel and Ethan Coen’s 1996 film of the same name.

The 46-year-old will play Gina, a trophy wife and mother of twin boys.
