Ellie Goulding has revealed she adopted a new accent so she wouldn't sound like she came from a council house.

The 26-year-old Burn singer grew up in Hereford, West England taught herself to speak differently but now wishes that she hadn't.

Speaking to the Observer she said, "I became fixated on speaking well. I felt like people just knew I was from a council house and that I was poor because of the way I spoke."

Goulding described her original accent as "quite Bristolian" and admitted that she wishes she could get her old accent back, "I feel silly because I'm not ashamed of the Hereford accent now and it's too late to get it back."
