Love/Hate's Peter Coonan who plays Fran in the hit crime drama is "sad" about this Sunday night's series four finale but has plenty to look forward to in 2014.

Speaking to RTÉ TEN this afternoon about where he'll watch the finale, he said: "I will probably just watch it in the house where I live with my mates. A few of the lads might come over and watch it together.

"There’s no chattin’ whatsoever. I get pretty annoyed when people chat. Just before the ad break finishes I’m going, 'Lads shut up'."

It is understandable that he would want his friends to be quiet as Coonan and most of the cast see the show for the first time when it goes to air: “I haven’t seen any of the episodes so far so if someone wants to watch it with noise – they can go somewhere else!"

He added: “We were in the Galloping Green [a pub in Stillorgan/Leopardstown] for the first episode, my dad and some of my friends and family, which is kind of a tradition at this point.

"There was a family sitting in the corner - it had been reserved for Love/Hate but I had taken it down as I was a bit embarrassed. Half way through they could get this feeling that we were all starring at them because they were talking and then they moved!"

It’s exciting times for Coonan as his girlfriend Kim O'Driscoll is pregnant with their first child: “She’s great. She’s taking it in her stride and she’s looking beautiful and we’re looking forward to it. She is just over three months."

Coonan also has a little boy from a previous relationship: “I have a son Ben. He just turned five at the start of October. He’s great fun, he’s becoming hilarious now.

“He actually saw me the other day and he said, ‘You play a baddie!’ and we were like, 'How do you know that?’ because he listens to everything, he knows everything that’s going on!”

Does he say ‘Coolaboola’? “No, I hope he never says it!”

Coonan was in RTÉ to talk to 2fm's Colm Hayes. How is he feeling with the end of Series Four of Love/Hate coming up on Sunday night: “I’m going to be sad when it finishes, it’s going to be sad this year because normally it airs a little bit later, a month later which rolls into Christmas which is obviously the best time of the year.

"Now we have a break in between and it’ll be a bit of a lull but I’m looking forward to relaxing and enjoying the next couple of months and Christmas with the family and loved ones.

Regarding series five of Love/Hate: “We don’t know what’s going to happen, we’ll find out after [Sunday night’s show] that anything is possible!”

Watch Love/Hate this Sunday night on RTÉ One at 9.30pm.
