John Lennon’s childhood home has been sold at auction for £480,000 to an American fan.

The house at 9 Newcastle Road, Wavertree, Liverpool was auctioned at the Cavern Club and was expected to sell for up to £250,000 but an anonymous American fan almost doubled that with his offer of £480,000/€560308.45.

Lennon lived in the home with his mother until he was 5 years old.

Andrew Brown of Countrywide Property said of the auction, “There was a lot of interest in the property before the auction from potential buyers who lived in the UK and internationally.

“The auction was very exciting with a number of keen buyers bidding for the property, and we are delighted to have sold such an iconic piece of The Beatles and Liverpool’s history.”
