House of Cards is in talks for a third season, it has been revealed.

The Netflix political drama, which stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, premiered on the streaming service earlier this year, with a second season expected to debut in 2014.

Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos spoke to Deadline about the future of the show, saying: "Our intent is that the show keep going for sure. It was a 26-episode commitment. It was not our intent that it just run for two seasons."

He added: "Talks are in progress right now… so stay tuned."

The first season of House of Cards was critically acclaimed, with the show's stars Spacey and Wright both earning Emmy nominations.

Production on the second season of the show began in the spring.
