Northern Irish actor and The Fall star Jamie Doran is in negotiations to replace Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey for the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, according to a report.

The Hollywood Reporter says Dornan has been chosen by Universal to take over the role and talks are ongoing with a view to starting production in early November.

The former Calvin Klein model is best known for his role in The Fall opposite Gillian Anderson but has also appeared as the Huntsman in ABC’s Once Upon A Time.

The report claims 31-year-old Dornan was contacted by the film-makers before Hunnam officially dropped out and was tested last Friday opposite female lead Dakota Johnson. The film is set to be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.

There is a planned release date for the film of Aug 1 next year so Universal are under pressure to get filming started.
