Creator Mitch Hurwitz has announced that an Arrested Development movie is his preference ahead of a fifth season of the show.

Hurwitz, speaking at 2013's New York TV Festival, explained that the cast's busy schedules might make it difficult to shoot another run of episodes for Netflix, who produced the cult comedy’s recent fourth season.

"I really want to . . . do the movie," the 50-year-old writer explained. "And then bring the series back after that. It's not my decision, but it's what I want to do."

Hurwitz also said that he was "really sorry" about aspects of Arrested Development's divisive fourth season, claiming that he did not "prepare the audience" for the show's new format.

"The storytelling changed," he said. "That first episode became much more like chapter one of a novel than episode one of a series. And I didn't prep [the fans] - I'm really sorry about that."
