Transformers director Michael Bay has been attacked and injured in Hong Kong while filming his latest movie in the sci-fi franchise.

Reuters, quoting a police spokesperson, reports that Bay was approached on set by two men who demanded payment of HK$100,000 ($12,900).

Bay was subsequently assaulted, while three police officers who tried to intervene were also attacked.

The two men were subsequently arrested.

Bay sustained facial injuries but a spokesperson for the director said he did not seek treatment.

Filming later continued.
