The iconic '80s TV show Remington Steele is returning as US network NBC has announced a revival of the private eye drama.

Future James Bond star and Navan native Pierce Brosnan featured alongside Stephanie Zimbalist as the main characters Remington Steele and Laura Holt in the original show, which ran for five seasons between 1982 and 1987.

According to Deadline, the reboot will skip a generation and focus on Olivia Holt, Steele and Holt's daughter, as she follows in her parents footsteps by re-opening the Remington Steele Detective Agency.

In another change from the original - which was an hour-long drama - the updated version of the show has been pitched as a half-hour comedy, with Jay Scherick (The Smurfs) and David Ronn (Spin City) on board as writers.
