Grainne Seoige has opened up about hosting the 39th annual People of the Year Awards.

Preparations are underway for the ceremony, which will be broadcast live on RTÉ One after the Nine O'Clock News on Saturday September 14.

Viewers can look forward to some inspiring stories of courage, bravery and heroism on the night.

Seioge said of the awards: “I feel honoured to have presented the People of the Year Awards for so long now, and look forward to this, my seventh year, as host. It’s such a fantastic national celebration which recognises some truly amazing people across Ireland, from all communities and backgrounds.

"I’ve seen some of the nominations for this year and it promises once more to have viewers glued to their screens for a mix of bravery, selflessness and tear jerking emotion. Each year I look forward to meeting the deserving winners and being part of such a special occasion.’’

The annual awards provide a unique opportunity to honour the outstanding actions of extraordinary people across the country.

There will be 11 awards presented on the night including Young Person of the Year, Sports Person of the Year, International Person of the Year and this year’s special award – Dad of the Year in association with 2FM’s Breakfast with Hector.
