U2 star Larry Mullen Jr and his A Thousand Times Good Night co-stars are celebrating after winning the Grand Prix Jury award at the Montreal Film Festival.

The film, which is about a top war photographer, played by Juliette Binoche, and also stars Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, won the Montreal Film Festival top award.

Co-produced by Irish production company Newgrange Pictures, the film sees Mullen Jr coupled with Tudors star Maria Doyle Kennedy and they play friends of Binoche's lead character.

Directed by Norwegian filmmaker Erik Poppe, the film premiered in Montreal on Saturday where it received a standing ovation.

Speaking about casting the U2 drummer, who also starred in last year's Man on the Train, director Erik Poppe said: “I always want to mix in a little surprise.

“Since I'm filming in Dublin, I just had to ask him, to add something fresh and raw to the movie.”


Mullen Jr and his U2 bandmates are in currently working on their 13th studio album however they took time out yesterday (04.09.2013) to celebrate Adam Clayton's wedding to Brazilian model Mariana de Carvalho.
