The Maroon 5 star's semi-autobiographical comedy has been given the thumbs up by network bosses and is set to go into production later this year.

American TV network NBC have picked up a the TV comedy which will be produced by Levine and written by his long-term roommate and collaborator, Gene Hong.

The single-camera show will be based on Levine's relationship with Hong, confirmed The Hollywood Reporter, and it marks the latest collaboration between the pair, who most recently worked on an a scripted comedy set in a karaoke bar that didn't make it to pilot.

Levine and his long-time manager/producing partner Jordan Feldstein inked a first-look deal with NBC in May to create scripted and alternative programming to serve as series and specials for the network.
