The US television network, the CW, is working with Debbie Allen to develop a new Fame-like drama.

The Hollywood Reporter says the as yet untitled series will be set in Los Angeles performing arts school.

Fame, the original TV show ran on NBC from 1982 until 1987 and was set in New York and featured Debbie Allen as dance teacher Lydia Grant. It was inspired by the Alan Parker-directed film of 1980 which also featured Allen in a lesser role.

The series will be written by Matt Witten (House) who will be an executive producer alongside Allen and Sam Haskell.

Allen also starred in an attempt to revive Fame on film in 2009 alongside Kelsey Grammer.
