Warner Bros has announced that it will release A Winter's Tale, the romantic drama starring Colin Farrell and Downton Abbey's Jessica Brown Findlay, on Valentine's Day in the US.

The film, which marks the directing debut of Oscar-winning A Beautiful Mind screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, is based on the Mark Helprin novel Winter's Tale and is set in a mythic New York City, where a thief falls in love with a dying woman.

The cast includes Jennifer Connelly, Russell Crowe, William Hurt and Eva Marie Saint, with director Goldman also adapting the book for the screen.

Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros, said the film "features a remarkable roster of acting talent and a sweeping, romantic story that's ideally suited for the holiday period".

An Irish release date has yet to be announced.
