Backstreet Boys star Kevin Richardson has opened up about his temporary exit from the popular boyband, claiming he "had nothing left to give".

The 41-year-old Everybody singer left the group in 2006, in order to also start a family with his wife Kristin.

Speaking to Access Hollywood, Richardson, who returned to the group in April 2012, revealed his reasons for returning to the spotlight.

He explained: "I didn't have anything left in the tank. In 2006, there were some things I wanted to do in my own life and start a family and be normal for a while... I didn't feel inspired."

He continued: "Now, recently I felt inspired and wanted to create again and make music again."

Richardson and his wife recently welcomed their second child, a baby boy named Maxwell Haze Richardson.
