Stephen Rea and Janet McTeer have joined Maggie Gyllenhaal in the cast for the new, seven-part BBC Two thriller series The Honourable Woman.

Written and directed by Hugo Blick (The Shadow Line), The Honourable Woman is described by the BBC as "a fast paced, labyrinthine thriller set against an international political backdrop" and tells the story of Nessa Stein (Gyllenhaal), a businesswoman whose life is picked apart by the intelligence services.

Rea, who starred in The Shadow Line, will play Hugh Hayden-Hoyle, an about-to-retire MI6 spy, while McTeer will play the boss of MI6.

The Honourable Woman will be shown on BBC Two next year.
