Rosamund Pike has been cast in Gone Girl. The World's End star takes the female lead opposite Ben Affleck in the movie adaptation of Gillian Flynn's bestselling novel.

Pike will play Amy, a woman who goes missing on the day of her fifth wedding anniversary, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.

Affleck will play her husband Nick, a failed writer whose seemingly perfect life falls apart after his wife's disappearance as he becomes the prime suspect in the case.

David Fincher (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network) will direct the project from a script Flynn wrote for the big screen.

Reese Witherspoon is co-producing through her Tyle A Films production company alongside Bruna Papandrea and Leslie Dixon.

Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry are reportedly being eyed for supporting roles.

Gone Girl is set to go into production in September.
