Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem have welcomed their second child together, a baby girl.

A representative for the Spanish actress confirmed the news to Hello! magazine, although the new arrival's name is not yet known.

The couple's happy news coincided with the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first child, a baby boy, the third in line to the throne, who was born on the same day, July 22.

Cruz was admitted to the Ruber Internacional hospital in Madrid on Monday evening where she gave birth to her baby girl.

The Oscar-winning actors, who wed in 2010 after three years of dating, are already parents to two-year-old son Leonardo.

Cruz has spoken about wanting to protect her children from the public eye, telling Vogue magazine in 2011: "I want my son and my kids - if I have more - to grow up in a way that is as anonymous as possible."

She added: "The fact that his father and I have chosen to do the work we do doesn't give anybody the right to invade our privacy."
