The actress wife of Downton Abbey star David Robb has been killed by a Tube train in London.

The tragic death of the 56-year-old star, who starred in EastEnders, The Bill, The Professionals and Heartbeat but made her name on Scottish soap Take the High Road, is not being treated as suspicious.

"I was very fond of Briony. I cannot believe it.

Gary Hollywood, who also appeared in the Scottish soap, tweeted: "'Numb RIP to my 'lady Laird' Briony McRoberts xxx"

Actor Peter Land said he and wife Gillian were "aching" at her loss and described Briony as "a brilliant human being" on twitter.
