The third season of Chris O'Dowd's comedy series Moone Boy will begin filming next week in Boyle, Co Roscommon.

The show's producer, Paul Donovan, told IFTN that filming would begin on Monday July 22 for eight weeks, with creator O'Dowd set to direct one of the episodes in the third series.

Donovan said that there would be "a few new cameo roles" in season three but that he could not reveal them at present, as there are "a few names that will be nailed down over the next week".

Season two of Moone Boy, which is set during Ireland's Italia '90 odyssey, will be show on Sky One in the Autumn.

Of season three, Donovan said: "We've moved on another year into 1991, so there are other shenanigans going on in the family.

"There are a few developments at the end of season two that are picked up on in season three, so I think the trick is to tune into series two and get ready for the next one."
