It looks like the character of Tom Branson is set to get a new love interest in the next season of Downton Abbey.

The Daily Mirror reports that 28-year-old actress Daisy Lewis is to join the cast.

Last season Branson, played by Irish actor Allen Leech, saw the death after childbirth of his wife, Lady Sybil (Jessica Brown-Findlay).

It is reported that Lewis is set to play a live-in nanny who is hired to look after Tom Branson’s daughter, also Sybil.

A source quoted by the newspaper said “Daisy will become one of Downton’s most prominent characters. She wowed producers in her audition and they are delighted to have secured such a brilliant young actress.

“Her romance with Tom will be one of the main storylines of the series. He will begin to develop feelings for her and they start a secret affair.”

Leech’s character is expected to play a major part in the new series following the death of Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens) in the Christmas special.

Branson was the chauffeur in the first two seasons of Downton and shocked the Crawleys when he eloped with their youngest daughter.

Also new to the Downton cast this season are Paul Giamatti who will play Ladt Cora’s brother, Harold, and Nigel Harman who will play a visiting valet.
