A lock of Mick Jagger's hair, which was cut by his former girlfriend Chrissie Shrimpton almost 50 years ago, has sold for £4,000 (€4,667) at auction.

The hair was bought by an anonymous buyer for twice the amount of Bonham's pre-estimated prediction.

The winning bidder will receive the lock of hair along with an envelope with the words ''Mick Jagger's hair after being washed + trimmed by Chris at Rose Hill Farm (sic)'' written on it.

A set of handwritten lyrics by British singer David Bowie for his song The Jean Genie sold for £18,750 (€21,835) at the auction, while a guitar owned by Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page sold for £26,250 (€30,569).

Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis recently said that the the Rolling Stones' Saturday night headline set was the best in the festival's 43-year history.
