Dublin Zoo is hosting a special monkey-themed event this weekend, Saturday July 6 and Sunday July 7.

The Zoo says that Kellogg's Coco Pops Monkey Moments will feature keeper talks, guided tours of the newly refurbished South American House (12.30pm and 2.30pm), meet and greets with Coco Pops' Coco Monkey, games, face painting, a family disco and a quiz with the chance to win an annual family pass.

On Sunday July 7 at 1:15pm Eddie O'Brien, team leader of the Zoo's South American House, will reveal the name of the Zoo's new Goeldi's monkey.

The rare, dark-haired Goeldi's monkeys are so adept at blending into their surroundings that they were only first discovered in 1904.

The South American House, the Zoo says, "is home to over nine species including monkeys, tortoises and parrots from the rainforests of Central and South America. Colourful or camouflaged, shy or show-off, each species has its own place in the forests. However, many of these species are now in danger due to hunting and deforestation."
