Actor Jim Carrey has taken to Twitter to distance himself from his upcoming movie, Kick-Ass 2.
The actor has told his Twitter followers that he cannot support the film due to its violent content.
In the sequel he plays the role of Colonel Stars and Stripes. The film is based on the comic book series by Mark Millar about a teenager superhero named Kick-Ass (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson). The films also star Chloe Moretz.
Carrey said he made his decision following the Sandy Hook school killings saying “I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence.”
He added “I meant to say my apologies to others involved with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.”
The film is due to open in August.
