Oscar winner Anne Hathaway has signed on to star in and produce the historical movie, The Lifeboat.

The film is an adaptation of a book by Charlotte Rogan which centres on the story of Grace Winter, a woman standing trial for murder in 1914, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Newlywed and widowed Grace tells the story of a how she survived the sinking of a transatlantic ship with the help of her husband finding a place on a lifeboat. There are too many people on the boat however and the survivors start to talk about getting rid of some.

The rights to the novel have been acquired by Working Title and Focus Features and it is been adapted for the screen by William Broyles Jr.
