Laura Dern has joined the cast of forthcoming indie film Strings.

The actress will star alongside Josh Duhamel, Maria Bello, Lucas Till and Tom Everett Scott in the music-orientated movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Strings is the debut feature film of director Daniel Duran, who is moving to the big screen after directing over 50 music videos.

The story follows a young, drug-addicted DJ (Till) who is ordered by the court to live out the rest of his underage years in the custody of his estranged father.

Duhamel (Safe Haven) plays the role of a counsellor who treats Till's character, making a shocking discovery in the course of their sessions.

Dern will play Mary, a beaten-down woman who has never recovered from the death of her eldest son.

The script was written by Oscar Torres, who will also produce the project with Duran, Danny Rodriquez and Phyllis Laing.

Shooting on Strings has already commenced in Winnipeg, Canada.
