Christina Ricci has been cast as the infamous Lizzie Borden in a new television movie for Lifetime.
Borden became a figure of intense media scrutiny in 1892 when she was put on trial for the murder by axe of her father and stepmother.
The Massachusetts native was later acquitted of the crimes, which remained unsolved.
Judith Verno (Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret) will executive produce the project.
Ricci recently starred in the television programmes Pan Am and The Good Wife, and will next be seen on the big screen in The Smurfs 2.
