The nominations for the 2013 Critics Choice TV Awards have been announced.

Leading the way in the nominations are American Horror Story: Asylum and The Big Bang Theory, who have each received six nods.

American Horror Story has been nominated in the Best Movie or Miniseries category, Best Actor and Actress in a Movie or Miniseries for James Cromwell, Zachary Quinto and Jessica Lange, and Best Supporting Actress in a Movie or Miniseries for Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe.

The Big Bang Theory will compete against Louie, The Middle, New Girl, Parks and Recreation and Veep for the Best Comedy Series award. Meanwhile, Jim Parsons has been nominated for a Best Actor in a Comedy Series and Simon Helberg (Howard) was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

NBC's Parks and Recreation and Top of the Lake have each been recognised in five categories, while Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, The Good Wife, Louie, New Girl, Political Animals and The Americans each have four.

The coveted Best Drama Series award will be hotly contested, with The Americans, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, The Good Wife and Homeland in the running.

Parks and Recreation star Retta will host the ceremony, which will be held on June 10, 2013 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.
