It has been announced that Michael Palin is set to receive the BAFTA Fellowship this month for his contribution to entertainment and television.

The 69-year-old will be presented with the award during the BAFTA Television Awards ceremony on Sunday, May 12, reports Digital Spy.

Speaking about the upcoming award Palin said "A BAFTA Fellowship is a very high honour for anyone working in television. I'm well aware that any success I've had is down to teamwork.

"I've been blessed throughout my career with the inspiration and support of others. The Fellowship is for all of us."

BAFTA Chairman John Willis said that Palin’s "amiable on-screen manner belies the seriousness of his craft."

He added "There are few individuals more worthy than Michael of the Fellowship, the highest honour the Academy can bestow."
