Former footballer Paul Gascoigne revealed on last night's Alan Carr's Chatty Man that Gary Lineker saved his life.

The troubled 45-year-old also discussed his recent stint in an American rehab centre in February to seek help with his alcohol addiction.

Gascoigne also mentioned some of the celebrities who grouped together to help cover the cost of his treatment.

Gascoigne specifically thanked Gary Lineker, Chris Evans, Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Jack Wilshire and Alan Sugar for their donations.

He said: "I want to say from the bottom of my heart I am really grateful.

"If I come across them I will give them a massive hug. I would like to think they have saved a good man's life."

Gascoigne also admitted to Carr that there is a chance he will drink again one day. "I never say never. I might drink in the future," he admitted.

"I don't want to and I don't plan to. I just have to make sure I am ahead of the ball and do the right things."
