Speaking to RTÉ TEN about the series, Bowman said: “The fact that we had four programmes allowed us to explore Mary Robinson’s career in some depth.
“This was also facilitated by the fact that Mary Robinson has so recently completed her memoir, Everybody Matters.
“There is also some archive material included in the programmes which has been found in the RTÉ Sound Archive and also an interview with her father - only a fraction of which would have been used in the original television documentary for which it was first recorded.
“He sees the key to Mary as her lifelong interest in the law and how she has continued to use the law to challenge power and to effect change.
“This is true of her involvement in the women’s movement in the 1960’s and 70’s, of her Senate campaigns and of her international career since her term as Ireland’s first woman president.”
