Veteran British metal merchants Iron Maiden have launched their own brand of beer.

The cask ale - named Trooper after their 1983 single - will first be made available in pubs around Stockport in Lancashire, near the Robinsons brewery where the beer will be made.

Singer Bruce Dickinson told The Sun they also plan to sell bottles of the 4.7 per cent strength beer at gigs, before rolling out the brand across the UK, and later worldwide.

Dickinson said: "Iron Maiden is something quintessentially British - so we said we should be doing a real ale. We have to satisfy the thirst of Iron Maiden fans around the world, and there are a lot of them."

Maiden aren't the first band to release their own brand of booze. AC/DC launched a wine range last year, including Back In Black Shiraz, while Motorhead have a vodka.

Elbow, Pearl Jam and The Hold Steady - who created a low-alcohol IPA called Clear Heart Ale - are among other acts who got involved in brewing.
