Matt Smith has been cast in How To Catch a Monster.
The Doctor Who star is due to make his US acting debut in the forthcoming project, which is Ryan Gosling's directorial debut.
Smith will take on the lead role in the project, Variety reports.
He joins already-cast Eva Mendes and Christina Hendricks in the film.
How To Catch a Monster is set in a dream-like landscape of a disappearing city and follows a single mother named Billy who finds herself in a fantasy underworld.
Her teenage son finds a secret path leading to an underwater town, which they must investigate in order to save their family.
The project will be produced by Marc Platt and Adam Siegel along with Gosling, Michel Litvak and David Lancaster.
