Former Eastenders star Gillian Taylforth is set to join the cast of Hollyoaks.

The 57-year-old, who played the part of Kathy Beale in Eastenders for 15 years, is set to take on the role of Sandy Roscoe in Hollyoaks.

Taylforth recently stripped down to her bikini for a photo shoot with Closer magazine and admitted that she is stunned to be seen as a sex symbol.

In the accompanying interview, she said: "It really shocks me that people think I'm sexy! I've never seen myself like that. But I'm doing this shoot so I can look back when I'm old and grey and remind myself that I was quite all right once.

"I'm actually not very good at accepting compliments. I'm a total tomboy - whenever you see me out and about I'll be in my Timberlands and jeans."

In addition to that casting news, it has also been revealed that Hollyoaks arch-villain Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix) will return to the popular Channel 4 soap.

Details of Clare's return to the show are yet to be released.
