Jeremy Renner has been cast in Kill the Messenger.
The Bourne Legacy star will take the lead role of Gary Webb in the true-story thriller, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Renner will play the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, who was denounced for exposing the CIA's controversial involvement in helping Nicaraguan Contra rebels import crack cocaine into California in the 1980s.
Webb's career was detroyed, leading him to commit suicide in 2004.
Michael Cuesta (Homeland, Dexter), will direct the thriller from a script by Peter Landesman.
Production on Kill the Messenger is scheduled to begin in the summer.
