Merlin star Katie McGrath has been cast in the new TV drama series Dracula.

The Wicklow-born actress joins Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the forthcoming horror series, which sees Meyers take on the titular role.

McGrath, who is best known for playing Morgana in BBC One's Merlin, will play Lucy Westenra, a London socialist who is friends with Mina Murray (Jessica De Gouw), reports TVLine.

Nonso Anozie, who plays Xaro Xhoan Daxos in Game of Thrones, has also joined the new show as Renfield, the loyal accomplice of Dracula.

The series takes place in London in the 1890s, where Dracula poses as American businessman Alan Grayson, while secretly seeking revenge on those who wronged him.

As yet there is no broadcast date but the ten-part drama will air on NBC in the US and Sky Living in Ireland and the UK.
