Daniel Day-Lewis has revealed that his children only recently learned that he’s a Hollywood actor.

The Golden Globe-winner - whose performance in Lincoln has also earned him a Best Actor nomination at this year's Oscars - admitted that one of his sons thought he worked as a builder.

He told The Mirror: "They didn't even know what I was doing until a couple of years ago.

"In fact, my 14-year-old boy was asked what I did and he said, 'I think he's in construction'. That's how much they know!"

The 55-year-old went on to describe his parenting style as "old-fashioned" and that he has passed on to his children the values taught to him.

"My parents believed in certain things, which I do too," he said. "I want my children to also. But there's no guarantee they will."
