Shakira has welcomed her first child with her partner, footballer Gerard Piqué.
The singer gave birth to baby boy Milan yesterday (January 22) at 9:36pm in Barcelona, Spain.
Their son weighed approximately 6lbs and 6oz, with mother and son said to be in "excellent health".
A post on Shakira's official website explained the meaning of his name, saying: "The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification."
It added: "Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth."
Yesterday, the singer tweeted: "I'd like to ask you all to accompany me in your prayers on this very important day of my life."
