Alec Baldwin will take one of the lead roles in Woody Allen's next film, it has been revealed.

The movie, Blue Jasmine, will centre on a fashionable New York housewife and chronicles "the final stages of an acute crisis", according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Cate Blanchett is on board to play the housewife, with Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard, Louis CK and Boardwalk Empire actors Bobby Cannavale and Michael Stuhlbarg also appearing.

Baldwin previously starred in Allen's most recent film, To Rome with Love.
