Scarlett Johansson has said that she has her curvy figure to thank for her “bombshell” image.

Speaking ahead of her appearance as Janet Leigh in the upcoming Hitchcock biopic, she told Elle magazine: "I think any woman who is curvy and wears a gown to an event is, like, super-sexualised."

Even at the beginning of her career, the media quickly labelled the actress: "I mean, at the time I was 18, 19. I was young. I've always been curvy. It runs in the family.

"Throw on an evening frock and it's like all of a sudden you have boobs and everyone is like, 'Bombshell!'"

She added: "Instantly it was 'The new Marilyn'."

The 28-year-old also spoke about her marriage to Ryan Reynolds, which lasted two years from 2008 to 2010: "I got married when I was young and it was incredibly romantic and I liked being married, actually. But it is different.

"To me, being in a functioning relationship doesn't mean you have to be married. I never think about marriage."

However she added that during her marriage, her phone was hacked and private photographs were circulated online: "I had some problems in my family and publicly, my relationship - all that stuff. It was like, 'Oh man, what next?'

"But life has ebbs and flows, don't you think?"
