After much speculation, Lucy Spraggan has given up her place in the live shows of The X Factor due to illness.
'I'm gutted not to be able to continue this journey but i'm not well enough to perform' a statement from the singer read this morning.
'To accept another free pass having missed last weekend would not be fair on the others in the competition. I wish them all well' Spraggan continued.
The 21 year-old was too ill to perform last week and was given automatic entry in to this week's live shows. Last week Jade Ellis was the latest contestant to leave the competition after three of the four judges chose to send her home.
'I would like to express my thanks to everyone who has supported me. There is no way that this setback will prevent me from fulfilling my ambition. You'll be hearing from me again very soon' the statement concluded.
Spraggan impressed with her original songs and witty lyrics from her very first audition
Producers of the show took to Twitter to write on the official X Factor profile that 'We are all sorry to see her go and wish her all the best for the future. She has been a fantastic contestant'.
Spraggan's mentor Tulisa Contostavlos, said in a statement 'I’m so sorry to lose Lucy from the competition, I have had a brilliant time working with her and I hope I can continue to mentor her in the future'.
The X Factor continues tonight at 8:20pm on UTV/TV3. The theme this week is 'Number 1's'.
